Today is the start of a New Year, which to me means new birds and also birding resolutions. Here are four of my resolutions which I’m going to try to achieve this year:
1. I’m going to try to submit a checklist to eBird every time I go birding and also take field notes and make sketches more regularly.
2. Learning more about my camera and how to take better photos. (I have some exciting news on the camera front, but I will keep it under wraps until a little later.)
3. Trying to get others interested in the beauty of birds and birding.
4. Some of the species I’d like to see this year are: Boreal Chickadee, Gray Jay, Evening Grosbeak, and a Western Tanager.
Do you have any bird goals or resolutions for 2014, or nemesis bird on your list to find?
Happy New Year and the best birding in 2014!
Some of my favorite photos from the past year:
An American Goldfinch,
A male Blue-winged Teal,
A Black-crowned Night-Heron,
Beautiful images! I cannot wait for spring to see the goldfinches in their spring and summer plumage again! Wonderful work! Really enjoyed your post! Keep up the good work!
Thank you and Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Charlotte! I really want to get a good look at a Sedge Wren, heard one in `13 but no sighting..
Also have another successful Snow Goose Chase!

Thank you, Bob! I’ve never seen a Sedge Wren, so you’re one up on me!
Happy New Year, Charlotte! Beautiful birds and images. I always have a list of birds I would like to see..like the Black Tern and a Puffin..Good luck with your birding.. I wish you all the best in 2014.
Thank you, Eileen. I hope you see most of the birds on your list!
I’m working on goals 2 and 3 myself for 2014…. was considering trying for some of the birds I missed in 2013…. we’ll see… I suppose I should post my resolutions today, but I have the results of the first birding trip to write up as well and lots of packing to do!
I can’t wait to see your post on your trip!
My goals are close to the same as yours. I seem to fall behind on my ebird and then never make the time to catch up on them. My larger goal this year it to create a webpage for desert birding with hopes of creating a community space where everyone is welcome and people coming to the desert can meet local birders.
Yes, I have the same problem. Hopefully it won’t happen this year. I would love to go birding in the desert, maybe one day.
Happy New Year to you too, Charlotte. Good luck on your resolutions!
Like your 3rd resolution I will also try to get more people interested in birds, with my series “what the bird…” in English and German. And some new birds on my life list, of course.
Keep up the good work!
I’m looking forward to your “What the Bird” posts. Happy New Year!
